I've been thinking about what to write for this post for the whole day and don't really feel I've made much progress. Since it's almost time for me to go to sleep however, I'll just chuck a few words out of my head here.
Firstly, I'll start with the issue of alcohol since I know a bit more about it. Personally, I don't see alcohol as a problem in itself, the problem lies in the fact that people are unable to drink it safely. People have been drinking alcohol for who knows how many years, and I'm sure it's a fun way to celebrate special occasions and to treat yourself once in a while (I cannot directly comment as I am underage). I've even heard that drinking red wine can be beneficial for your health so alcohol can't be that bad. People, especially youngsters just need to exercise control over the quantity they drink and make sure if they are at a party or function, that they have arranged transport to go home - drink driving of course, is the main factor for the negative comments against the consumption of alcohol.
Moving on to drugs, I won't even bother talking about the medicinal properties of some drugs and their obvious benefits - surely everyone knows that. The issue is the wide availability of drugs such as marijuana, MDMA (ecstasy), cocaine etc. Despite the laws enforced by the government regarding the illegal marketing of drugs, it is utterly ridiculous how easily people can get a hold of them. Drugs ruin the lives of normal people like you and me, and in turn, the costs of rehabilitation and education cause the government to waste millions of tax payers dollars that could be spent on other things more meaningful. I don't know what to say really, one blogger's opinion doesn't change anything- just a drop in the ocean.
In the future I pray that children will be educated about drugs from an early age, about the serious negative consequences that follow which will affect them psychologically, physically as well as financially (drugs can be extremely expensive!). Today's challenge was rather difficult but I feel like it has helped me improve my English expression and I do hope later on, that I will write more long essay type posts like this one.
Thank you for reading.
